The Changing World of Birding: how the HOBBY has evolved over time

 Tuesday, April 9 | 6pm | Ballroom

If you have the idea that birdwatching and birdwatchers are only nerdy types like Jane Hathaway from the Beverly Hillbillies show (an old TV show that some have never even seen) you might want to reconsider your opinion.  Brothers Derek and Ryan Sallmann from Badgerland Birding will definitely help set you straight with their upcoming presentation, “The Changing World of Birding—how the hobby has evolved over time.”

Definitely plan to attend the Green Lake Bird and Nature Club on Tuesday evening, April 9th at 6pm when guest speakers Derek and Ryan share how they became birders at a very young age after watching the movie “The BIG Year.”  After realizing how much fun birding was, they wanted to share their joy and many adventures with a larger audience and began publishing videos on YouTube.  Now with over 30,000 subscribers, they have expanded and are creating videos about backyard birding, identification, gear reviews and other related topics.  Although based in Wisconsin, they have also made birding videos in Texas, California, Florida and many other states—as well as Granada (in the Caribbean).  By using YouTube and social media to grab the interest of young birders while inspiring ALL birders, they will show how birdwatching has changed over the years.

The Sallmann brothers both graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College with Derek earning a Masters in Marine Biology at Nicholls State University in Louisiana. Their hope is to continue growing their channel, spreading the joy and excitement of birding with others and promoting bird conservation. You can check out their birding videos, blog, interviews, ID tip videos and much more by going to  www.BadgerlandBirding.com to learn more.

This program will take place in the BALLROOM on the second floor of Town Square located in downtown Green Lake (492 Hill Street) and is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Come through the main entrance and take the stairway to your right. Wheel chair and handicap accessibility is also available at the rear of the building with ample parking near the doorway—watch for signs directing you to the elevator. Bring a snack to share if you wish, beverages will be available for purchase.

The Green Lake Bird and Nature Club meets every second Tuesday of the month, from September through May. We welcome anyone with an interest in birds and nature to attend.
