For the first time in Green Lake, artist Janice Lutton will showcase her work in Town Square Community Center’s lobby gallery. The opening reception is set for Friday, August 10 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will include snacks and a cash bar. The exhibit, including several pieces available for purchase, will be on display through August.
“Having grown up in the area, Lutton is a long-time fan of Green Lake,” said Jorge Gutierrez of Green Lake Renewal. “You can see her love and passion for this town in every stroke, from her paintings of the iconic Sandstone Bluffs to the solitary deer blinds.”
Most of Lutton’s painting subjects are near her home and studio on the south shore of Green Lake. “I don’t go out with the intention of finding a painting,” she said. “It’s more of a two way conversation with the land that sticks in my memory.”
Lutton graduated from Ripon High School and DePauw University. She also studied at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and has worked with artists in various workshops. During the winter months, Lutton escapes to her studio in Naples, Florida. In the summer, one may find her at my cottage in Green Lake, Wisconsin, or participating in art events with the Cedarburg Artists Guild near Milwaukee.
